ReFi Communities Gather At ETH Denver
Last month, the Solid World team joined roughly 15,000 crypto enthusiasts from around the world for the biggest Ethereum conference in the United States, ETH Denver.
This event was a great opportunity to introduce our project to the community, and our CTO Jeff Prestes also gave a presentation during the conference, which explained the unique ways that the Ethereum network is being used in carbon farming.
The theme of Jeff’s presentation was “How We Bring Agriculture to Ethereum,” and he discussed Solid World, along with another project called Agrotoken. Solid World will be working with a variety of different carbon sequestration projects, but a large portion of our existing credits are from the agriculture industry.
There were a ton of presentations and they were all great, but the most important part of the conference was the conversations. The Solid World team spent hours speaking with different people each day about crypto, web3 and ReFi. Solid World core contributor Stenver Jerkku even got a chance to talk to Vitalk Buterin for a few short moments.
After the conference was over, a retreat was organized in the historic town of Breckenridge in the Rocky Mountains, about a 2 hour drive from Denver. The masses from the conference did not take the trip for the retreat, but the Regenerative Finance (ReFI) community was out in full force.
Solid World DAO rented a large cabin and hosted builders and members of the ReFi community for a few nights of networking and relaxation. However, heavy snows began as soon as we got into town, and we weren’t sure how that would impact everyone’s plans. The community was determined to meet up though, and our first networking event was a huge success.
As soon as the night began we jumped right into our presentation, because many of the guests had questions about how the project worked. These were many of the frequently asked questions that we have encountered in our first community calls.
How do we choose which projects get funded? Where does the money come from? How will we ensure that projects will deliver their credits?
We were able to answer all of these questions and more, as well as share some previews of what the marketplace will look like when the platform launches. You can see all the slides from the presentation below:
We also learned a lot about many of the other projects that are being developed in the ReFi ecosystem, and met with many of the teams involved with these projects as well.
Some of these projects include Dclimate, Open Forest Protocol, and Reverse. We also had the pleasure of talking with some of the people behind fundamental protocols like MakerDAO and Gitcoin.
We even witnessed the excitement of a DAO being formed in the hot tub of our AirBnb, KelpDAO, which seeks to promote the many benefits of Kelp.
Unfortunately, the police cut our evening short because there were too many cars parked on the street, but the ReFi community regrouped the following evening for a wine tasting that was hosted by the team of Reverse.
After the time we spent with many of the other teams building in ReFi, we saw that this really is one of the most collaborative sectors in crypto.
We are all working towards a common goal and there is no need to be tribal or competitive, something that crypto has a bit of a reputation for. In ReFi, when one of our teams succeed, we all win, because our goal is healing the earth and protecting our future here.
